LOCAL PRODUCTION

We strive for exceptional quality and make sure a fair share is earned by the craftsmen and woman that make our products. All our products are made in the Netherlands. Per product we match the required skill with the right craftsmen / woman. We work with various individual carpenters, working either in-house at our studio workshop or at external workshops in and nearby Amsterdam. Our tables are produced by a Dutch carpentry company working in the field of high end furniture production for over 3 generations.

SUSTAINABILITY

Where we do well. We believe a sustainable product lasts for generations. It should not just be made of sustainable materials and designed according to a specific trend, but simply last very long and stay relevant. We try to achieve this by creating something of outstanding quality as well as with a timeless beauty. Our products are designed and made to revive time and time again as vintage treasures in vintage shops, should the table leave its owners home. We refuse a ‘fast furniture’ approach, where quality is traded off against price and where designs are only interesting as long as the trend lasts. Our products are packaged using nearly only cardboard.
The material of most of our products is solid high quality wood. Trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and store approximately 1 ton of CO2 per 1m3 of wood for their entire life cycle, whereby reducing greenhouse effect. We use 100% PEFC or FSC certified wood, grown in sustainably managed forests where more trees are planted than cut. FSC is a sustainability certification (click here for more info). We use solid wood, rather than glued plywood with a veneer layer. Solid wood that is damaged can easily be repaired. It can be sanded and re-finished when necessary, to look brand new again. About 75% of the energy used at the workshops and studio is sourced from renewable energy sources (solar panels).

Where we can improve. We are aware that we can still do better in terms of sustainability. For the company, as well as personally. Our car and transporters’ van run on Diesel. While most of our wood is sourced from France (80%+), we still offer our clients the choice ofAmerican walnut and American ash wood. We are aware of these points of improvement and committed to make improvements.

DELIVERY AND ASSEMBLY

Delivery costs. We work with an external company for delivery, unpacking and assembly of the furniture. Please request a quote via email. If an external elevator is needed, an additional charge of €150,- ex vat applies in NL. For international delivery, also see under ‘International Sales and Delivery’.

Before and during delivery. After the order has been placed our transportation partner company will be in touch to plan the delivery. They will schedule the delivery with you, assemble the furniture and take the packaging with them.

After delivery. It is important that the wooden products get gradually accustomed to the new interior temperature and humidity level gradually. The workshop is usually cold and rather humid, and the destination interior might be warm and dry, especially in winter.

INTERNATIONAL SALES AND DELIVERY

International delivery costs. For international orders we work together with an experienced furniture transportation company. Please email info@mokkoamsterdam.com to receive a quote for your destination. This company can transport the object to your interior on the ground floor (fare: ‘basic’), or bring it to the floor of choice and install it in your interior (fare: ‘premium’).

Delivery time. In addition to the production time, we will likely need an additional week or two to do the necessary quality checks with you and get the piece ready for shipping including paperwork.

Transport. Because of the relatively high shipping costs for international shipping, we have a specific procedure in place for international sales. Before the product is transported, we will make a video of the object, for approval by the client, to confirm the good state of the table before shipping.

After delivery. It is important that the wooden products get gradually accustomed to the new interior temperature and humidity level gradually. The workshop is usually cold and rather humid, and the destination interior might be warm and dry, especially in winter. Please carefully read and follow the instructions regarding care and interior climate under ‘Care and Maintenance’.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Products finished with oil: During the first weeks, please be extra careful and only wipe the table with a dry cloth (not scrub) and only if necessary. For general cleaning wipe the table with a lightly damp (not wet) cloth. Please bear in mind that the wood is treated with a hard wax oil which does not fully seal the wood. This means the wood can still absorb liquids if exposed to it for too long. So please always be careful with liquids and try to wipe all liquids quickly after spilling. When wiping the object, please avoid scrubbing and rubbing. If you need to use soap or other care products, please only use the products recommended by us.

Products finished with varnish: For general cleaning wipe the table with a lightly damp (not wet) cloth. The table is finished with an almost invisible lacquer, which seals the wood. However, to avoid stains, please do not expose the table to liquid for too long. When wiping the object, please avoid scrubbing and rubbing.

Interior climate: To avoid the wood from warping and changing shape, it is important to keep the humidity level in the interior between 40-60% and the temperature at a normal living room temperature. Wooden objects are especially vulnerable the first weeks and months, due to the sudden change of interior climate. In the first weeks, preferably do not let the humidity percentage drop below 50% and preferably keep the temperature below 20 degrees Celsius. Please use a 'hygrometer' to check the humidity level and temperature and humidify and/or air the room when needed. During winter the humidity level drops when the home is heated. The wood may crack and warp in general, but it may crack and warp to unacceptable levels if these instructions are not followed.

WARRANTY

The guarantee period of our products is 2 years on the structural integrity of the product. This guarantee does not cover blemishes, stains, small chips or scratches due to normal wear and tear, change of color, small cracks etc. The use of solid materials and hand finishing implies that imperfections may occur and this is considered an inherent part of the product. Please carefully follow the instructions under ‘Interior Climate’ to avoid damage. Please also see our general terms and conditions for more information.
